Ok, so if you hold the HOME button down (the button with the House icon on it) for "2 seconds"...do you see the NUM on the lower right corner of the screen? and if you hold it for 1 second, do you see the blue "hand" at the bottom right?

This is exactly the issue.  The Shield, as a streaming device, needs a home button to take you to the main screen of the Shield.  For most devices, the home button takes to back to the room page.  The "trick" is to hold the button until the blue hand appears, but let go before the NUM appears.

It would be much better if there were dedicated buttons for screen navigation that always worked the same way, and were independent of the buttons for device-specific home and return commands.  I read in one of the threads that someone customized their remote to add screen navigation to the bottom of every device page.  This is probably the best solution.  You should consider making it the default behavior for the Smart Remote.

This morning I walk past the remote and see that the SR is on the generic Android screen. I launch the SR software (app on the bottom left of the screen). I launch the Shield and it opens and turns the TV on but not the HTP-1. Then the hard Home button does nothing.

I come back to the remote a few minutes later and the home button works as you describe above. With the hand and NUM showing. These have not appeared before when trying longer presses. Then it stops working to get me to the Home page of the remote. I'm not sure what got me back to the home screen but eventually it did.

I turned off the TV and started over. I pressed the Shield button on the SR. It powered on the TV and Shield only. I manually powered on the HTP-1. The SR worked to navigate around the Shield. Then I hit the hard Home button and it brought me to the Shield's home screen. Some random short and long presses got me back to the SR's home screen.

NUM is special.  It should always be there, regardless of what scene is displayed, if you hold the button long enough.  This is a num-lock, and turns the hard buttons into a numeric keypad.  If you turn this on accidentally and see NUM, Hold the home button until NUM disappears.

The blue hand only appears if a long-press has been defined for that key.  This is device dependent.

As to why the HTP-1 does not power on, either the driver is not setup properly, or you need help with your device macros.  Use Driver Command Testing from the device page on the server to verify that the server can control the HTP-1.

I'll look into the HTP-1 driver. The SR does change the volume once the HTP-1 is on.

Ok, so maybe we are getting somewhere. We noticed that your network takes forever to process commands (can be many seconds). We attributed that to us connecting to your system remotely via the Internet. But your symptoms sounds like you too locally see the delays. I don't know why this would be as it's unique to your system / network.

We haven't looked at the HTP-1 at all. Is that an AVR? If that is what controls volume (ie - not the TV), then the room activation macro needs to be modded for the HTP-1's device ID to tell the system that's what driver the volume command needs to control for that room.
