I still can't get this thing to work

I've only done things in the order that has been in the videos or documentation here. Do I need to delete my Shield and try and add it again?

I'll go to the MD section and ask questions. I'm not trying to make anything complicated. I'm trying to follow the videos in the YT playlists. Are they wrong? Where should I start? Maybe it is because myserver configuration is bad that I thought I had to use MD to do things.

I have a few hours left in me before this thing gets boxed up and sold. I have been at it all day and haven't been able to get anything working.

I remoted into your system.
Linux updates are wanted
Your SmartRemote does not seem to be on the network.
Ensure your SmartRemote clientname has no spaces. Just a simple text name like "smartremote1"
Get the remote on the wifi network and I will try again.
Follow the text documentation step by step. I think this is where you got astray.

Thanks. The remote was off while charging. It is booting up now.... It appears to be on the network.

When I started today I updated everything including Linux. I think there were 59 updates. Then I checked again and it told me everything was up to date. I'm going to reboot the server now. Done. It is still telling me that all packages are up to date.

Should I delete the Shield and re-add it?

I'll check out that documentation link again but that is what I used a few weeks ago. I'm not saying I didn't make a mistake.

I'm not against doing a factory reset if that will help.

I tried actually using the remote. The only thing I could get it to do is change the volume on the HTP-1. Now it is frozen on the Apple TV. I'm restarting it.

David I truly don't understand this. I followed the instructions on the page you linked to a long time ago. They are fairly straight forward except for the Shield (needing to enable debugging). The bottom of the page says: Complete Configuartion HERE and links to a page on using mydesigner. How do I complete my configuration if you don't want me to touch MD?

From the AndroidTV driver docs:
" Device types supported

Note: use these specific device type names when configuring your devices in the AndroidTV driver. "
You had shield as the device type. The proper name is ShieldTV. That's why the icon didn't appear. The Type needs to be a specific type not a random name.

AppleTV: The permissions weren't set as per the AppleTV driver documentation.

LGTV: missing the MAC address - without this, Wake on Lan can't work to turn the TV on. Without being on, we can't ensure that all will work.

HarmonyHub: Hub wasn't configured in the driver. We used Discovery in the driver to attempt to find it. No Harmony hubs were found.

So, fix the above and stuff might start to work!!!
