"Today you would have to do a Master Image slam"

Does this mean sometime in the future there will be an easy way to do this?

No, that's the way the industry does this.
Once you are setup, it takes 10 minutes.

I get it that this should really be a Break Glass In Case Of Emergency type of situation, but could we at least get something added to the documentation detailing how this process should play out?

Doing this a lot easy then the way documentation reads
From windows PC browse to \\<myserverip>\myServer\data
Copy "license.json" to your windows PC
Download and unzip "PI5-4-Master-2024-01-26"
Write "PI5-4-Master-2024-01-26.img" to SD or USB with belenaetcher
Boot the new image in your pi
From windows PC browse to \\<myserverip>\myServer\data
Copy "license.json" from your windows PC
Overwriting the existing "license.json"
Reboot Server

Side note use fast USB stick, I used a sandisk usb and the server is painfully slow
