If your SmartRemotes have been added to the AndroidTV driver it might be the driver trying to check status on the remote causing it to stay on.

I just modified the driver to no longer try to check what the remote is doing. Please, also make sure the the device type for the remote is "SmartRemote".

Let's see if this helps.
Do I need to do anything special after installing the updated driver and rebooting my remote? The hard button backlight shuts off but the screen stays on until I press the side button.

Does your android Display Settings set for Sleep "after 15 seconds" or so?

No you do not have to do anything after updating the driver. To know what is happening my only option is to remote in and inspect what your remotes are doing.

Quick update... Fingers crossed that your change fixed the issue I was having. I have not had to manually apply the Display setting for a couple of days.

Of course I probably jinxed it by replying....

Thanks for the attention to this.

Update - It's been 5 days and the bad behavior has stopped happening on both remotes.  Thanks!
