Not a good solution.
The battery is not user replaceable. The lifetime of the remote is limited by the battery.
Nothing destroys a lithium ion battery faster than letting it run completely dry.
Are you sure there is no way to do this remotely? Does it require special hardware?
I assumed that it would be possible for me to connect the base to the PC via USB, and you communicate with the remote when docked in the base. If I install Team Viewer on the PC, can you remote in and do what needs to be done?

We assume the remote is "dead" and can't be communicated with.
So, if the hard button power doesn't do the job, I don't see any other alternatives.
BTW, we will stock replacement batteries and already have replacement back panels that likely get hurt when the remote is taken apart.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't asking for another way to power off the device. I was asking why the re-install of the OS can't be done remotely.

Charge it and send it next day. It is not possible / impractical to update the firmware remotely.

It is a violation of federal law to ship it powered on.

I had an error on step 7 and figured it'd be best to ask for guidance before proceeding given some of the other reported challenges.
Step 7
Post reboot of the SmartRemote, do a "Install" from the AndroidTV Driver command list. Select smartremote as the device type. Run this command.)
I waited for the SmartRemote app icon to populate on the SmartRemote but it never appeared. In checking the system events log, I saw:
[Error: AndroidTV: SendCommand: ERror in SendCommand - An error occurred while reading a response from ADB: closed]
Should I try the command again? Or, should I go back to step 6 first to run the ForcedUninstall before trying the command again? I do see the SmartRemote listed again in the AndroidTV driver but there's no icon on the SmartRemote itself.
If it's helpful, the command I issued for step 7 was AV|68~Install~smartremote.apk . I did ping the SmartRemote first to confirm it was online and everything looked normal. I appreciate the guidance! I'll wait to hear from you before proceeding any further.
Thanks,
Neil
