You can see how custom installers get away with charging rich people the earth to install and configure systems like this (e.g. Control4, Crestron).

Absolutely. I totally get it.
Personally I don't have anything against what they charge. I just don't like the idea of being dependent on a third party integrator that may or may not still be around when I want/need changes to be made. I do my level best to avoid vendor lock in wherever possible and this system checked all of the boxes here.
What you will find is that neither Crestron or the multiple Control4 remote controls are any where near as powerful and configurable as the SmartRemote. And they are at least twice the price even without Integrator time considered. And that's only the remote control. The Control system (myServer) is WAY less expensive.
Even if you did pay an Integrator, they can't achieve what is possible with the SmartRemote.
Yes, it can take lots of time to customize a home automation / media control system. We have tried to make as much work with limited customization as we can, without sacrificing the ability to customize. It's a balancing act.
Nice video Nillaz! I think you have some nicer graphics than I do but the flow of things is fairly similar to what I have done. One thing I wanted to mention is that you said you couldn't hold down the directional arrows and have it send the command repeatedly. But it works that way for me and looking at the code in fxSmartRemote.js, I see the code that should keep sending the command. It's coded for the volume up/down and page up/down as well as the arrow keys. So you may want to go back and check into that.
