I continue to try different things and have made the following discoveries:
When setting up the Smart Remote as a Generic IR device, discovery does not find the Smart Remote. I needed to add it manually. The setup command does not ask for the Device Address, but assigns the name you have chosen as the Device Address. For the Generic IR device to work, the Device Address must be equal to the client name of the smart remote, as shown on the main page. Because that was the name I chose for my device, I did this by accident the first time. On other tries with different names, the Generic IR device will still work as long as you edit the entry and make sure the Device Address = Smart Remote Client Name.
I verified that I can successfully send IR commands from the Generic IR device.
Moving on to the BluRay IR device, when I manually Add Player, the IR Device Model is selectable from the drop-down menu, but the IR Device ID is not. I tried using the Device Address from the Generic IR device, and then tried Driver Command Testing from the BluRay IR device page. The log file showed that the IR Device ID is supposed to be the ID number from the Generic IR device. Mine is Control | 1.
After creating the BluRay IR device using a IR Device ID = 1, I can successfully send IR commands from the BluRay IR device page.
When the BluRay device is activated on the remote, I checked the value of the Server Variables. activesource_sourceid_sr1 = 7, but the ID on my BluRay IR device = 6. I edited the device (not the Server Variable), and changed it to 7.
When I try to send a command from the BluRay page of the remote, it still does not work. Looking at the log file, it expects to find {{active_bluray_{{clientname}}}}. I believe this translates into a server variable named active_bluray_sr1, which does not exist.
That is as far as I am willing to take it on my own. I started with this very early on, and the drivers have been updated many times since then. I have deleted and re-added devices numerous times. I suspect that something is messed up on my MyServer related to device IDs.
Should I add the Server Variable active_bluray_sr1? Or is there a way to "clean house" and start over?
The documentation states that Discovery is to discover GlobalCache devices.
I updated to documentation to advise it must be manually added and to use the smartremote clientname. thanx for those insights.
The documentation advises when you add a device to a room, then the macros are auto created IF they don't already exist for that room (won't overwrite).
So, if the device IDs changed, then you will have to manually change them.
You can also delete the macro and add the device to the room (again) and it should auto create the macro again (since it didn't exist since deleting it).
You could delete the macros for the room and then readd all devices back to rooms and double check that the sources per room are enabled.
to start "all over", you would need to flash the Master Image to the boot drive (M.2 for shelf mount kits or the USB for other Raspberry systems.
But I suspect you don't need to do all that.
