What do I need to purchase?

I see bundles, but I'm not really sure what I need. I am looking for a Smart Remote and the software to program it... mainly for my AV room, but I may implement some of my home automation at some point.

I assume I will need my Sever 6, and I can install it on my laptop, so is there any reason I need the Pi... or is that the hub that will be needed for integration?

We strongly recommend you buy the Shelf Pi bundle with SmartRemote.  And if you have IR equipment in a rack, the IP2IR added to that as well.
We don't recommend you use a PC, especially one that isn't dedicated as an automation controller (full time).
myServer 6 application / Master Image runs on the Pi.  The SmartRemote connects to that via your Wifi network.

It is an extremely capable solution.  It does take some time to understand how the system works together and how to build commands etc.  The forum is gathering steam with several folks that are getting experience and will to share.  Allonis daily supports forum users as well.

Technically all you need is the remote and myServer running on some machine. I would encourage you to consider using a pi instead of your laptop though, at least in the long term. The pi can efficiently run headless 24/7. If your laptop goes offline your remote becomes a fancy paperweight.

So the bundle comes with the remote, my Server 6 software, and the Pi Shelf, but the software will need to be installed on the Pi, or does it come installed, but I'm just paying for it separately?

myServer comes pre-installed on the pi. You'll still need to download myDesigner for your computer.
