User updating of drivers/ addition of server variables was created by allonis@bendavies.eu
Hello again,

I think I've read requests for this in other threads - starting this topic so it is a clear separate discussion point.

The biggest advantage of myServer over certain other similar systems is - obviously - that the user purchases the server and runs their own copy, being able to modify their setup locally - rather than relying on remote servers that could shut down at any time when companies are sold or fail.  Many of us have been badly bitten by this in the past.

myServer - which is powerful, well designed, and constantly under development (at the moment) - has IMO one achilles heel - that drivers still need regular modification by Allonis.

If it was eventually possible for (probably advanced) users to modify drivers themselves, this would reduce the reliance on Allonis, and many support requests.  Such drivers could be flagged as "user" versions - with notes - rather than official ones - and could perhaps be downloaded through a different menu rather than the official...
Even if this was impossible, it would be great to have some understanding of how the drivers are built - or for advanced users to be able to make small tweaks!

It's great having the "test" function - to add any commands that aren't in the drivers - but some of the (simpler) existing drivers could be much more detailed with community help.  noting that those in this community (by nature of the system) are already relatively advanced users!  Others could potentially add and group functions - and these adjustments incorporated into the official driver once vetted by Allonis...?
As posted elsewhere, the test function only allows use of unwritten commands.  It would be hugely helpful if there was the equivalent to the test function to add additional server variables - there is currently no way to add these outside Allonis.

Many thanks

Ben

Yes, I've been hoping Allonis would get around to allowing this but I'm not even sure if this is on their roadmap. Right now if I want to do anything more advanced I have to come up with some python script. It's nice that the option is available but it would be better if I could just write my own myServer6 driver(or tweak an existing one).
