Hot spare smartremote?

It would be extravagant but with our smartremote locking up several times recently I'm wondering about buying a new one for a hot spare. If I did, am I right in thinking the scene displayed on the 2nd remote wouldn't automatically be in sync with the one in active use? If we were using remote 1 and it locked up we'd have to pick up remote 2 and go into the correct scene from the index page?

I do this with a second remote. It doesn't synchronize automatically and you have to load the scene on the second remote. I've been thinking a bit about how to make this happen but I'm not there yet. It would be a lot easier if there was a server variable that tracks if a remote is awake/sleeping but as far as I can tell none of the remotes existing variables do this.

Leveraging server variables allows for "states" to be correct on both remotes. This covers 99% of what I need. For example, if the HT is switched on, both remotes will change the correct volume. I don't worry about the same scene being loaded because getting to the right one is one, maybe two clicks away.

One of the design principles I had when building the system was to minimize specific remote coding.  The remote simply fires a trigger that executes something on the server.  Volume up/down fires a macro that determines what sound system is being used (TV, Soundbar, or HT)

 

I actually do this when I'm using the android app. Instead of having it directly change scenes I have it call a macro and pass the scene I want to go to. The macro will then the LoadScene to both the android app and the smart remote using the WebCmd. I do this mostly so that I can start up the theater from my phone in a different part of the house and when I get down to the theater it's already on the scene that I want.

You could take the same approach and "sync" as many remotes as you want.

Hey man can you give an example of how this looks in a macro? I'm probably being dense but I'm not sure how to use a webcmd to trigger a scene change on a different device.
