Hi CodZero,
You can certainly sell the SmartRemote / myServer.
It is quite a bit more capable and mature than the Unfolded beta.
It doesn't sound like you have given the SmartRemote / myServer a try though. If you have a need for home automation and like the ability to customize the system, I would spend a few hours with the documentation to get it running.
Once it is setup, there shouldn't be any need to do anything more, until you want to change something.
Post any questions you have on the forum so that others can learn from the question and answers that will follow.
You can also commission Allonis for personalized assistance.
Thanx!!

Hi CurlyOscar,
I reread through your forum posts...seems all has been addressed expeditiously with your questions.
Is there something else that is keeping you from success with SmartRemote?
Thanx!!!

Hi David

There's no doubt the SmartRemote system is super capable - just looking at some of the remote setups people have shown on the forum demonstrates that.

The Unfolded remote is definitely not a beta anymore, but I'd say that it and the SmartRemote only slightly overlap each other, with potentially different markets. Unfolded are definitely aiming squarely at the HA / local control / open source crowd, not really the same market as Allonis. Both are capable within their own sphere.

It's not that I have any issue at all with the Smart Remote, I think it's a fantastic product, I just don't need that level of complexity. The other system works perfectly for my needs and integrates with Home Assistant from both sides of the server. I actually didn't think it was gonna be as useful for my setup as it has been.

I definitely don't want anyone thinking me looking to sell is any sort of reflection of dissatisfaction with the Allonis system. If anything it's saying that the system is way more than I need!

I haven't seen a post beyond yours that has Unfolded working nicely...so I call it "Beta".
Just posts like this one:

"My issue is they never put out a finished product AKA "Remote 2" but spent time developing the "Remote 3". Never stated that the remote 2 is going to be discontinued or not supported, but with all the delays in the Remote 2 I would prefer to see polished product prior to releasing a new model. Trying to compare this to a car manufacture id not a realistic comparison. It like a car manufacture sending out a car this year without a motor but say it's OK we will get it right with next year's model. I just don't have faith that they will get it right and be a viable business."

To be fair, they've put out nearly 30 firmware updates since December, so the idea it's been unsupported is just nonsense. The remote has been sold out consistently, and they decided to do R3 to add in iterative hardware changes and improvements (but have offered the same upgrades to R2 owners at very reduced cost). Apple or Samsung don't offer that, and nobody complains when they do all annual upgrade!

You know yourself that the loudest people are the ones complaining, and quite often they're also wrong, as per the comment you posted.

I honestly don't see the point in competitors in the field badmouthing each other, competition is good for everyone 🤷🏻

Hi David. The only thing that is stopping me achieving what I want the SmartRemote to be is me. I’m the first to acknowledge my limitations and this is right there on the edge of my know how. But I’ve learned a lot and will continue to push myself and have some fun doing it Assuming I can get the issue with my server resolved
So why am I interested in the R3? Just out of interest really. I have a SofaBaton, I’m experimenting with Home Assistant and HTWebRemote and I’ve pledged for the new Haptique that went live on Kickstarter last week too. I’ve got time on my hands since I retired early due to Parkinson’s disease and I’m just trying to find something I’ll be able to use as my condition deteriorates and also is wife friendly
So I’m certainly not giving up. I love tweaking settings and cracking that macro each day and sometimes I’m really happy with it and other days I could launch it at the wall
