I was an early backer on the Kickstarter for this, and evangelised about it where I could, because I can see the potential, and because competition in this sector can only be good. I've had the system for a few months now, but I haven't done any more than unbox the remote itself to have a look and put it back in the box. Haven't even opened the Pi box.

The problem is that I got another remote system at the same time (competition is good, remember, so you need to support it!), and setting that one up, which required no programming, and which now has bi-directional comms with Home Assistant (in that there is an official remote side integration and there is also a community made integration which sits inside Home Assistant and allows me to turn remote activities into voice activated ones) made me realise that I don't actually need a system as in depth as the SmartRemote would be.

Also, due to workload and general life, I simply haven't had any time at all to look at the programming side of things, and that's not looking like it's going to change any time soon. Well, that's not strictly true, I have looked and read, and threw my hands up. The last programming I did was back in the 80s, C++ and Dbase III and III+, so just a little bit out of date, lol. I'm sure with some intensive studying and hands-on use I could get it, but I just don't have that time spend capacity.

The upshot is that I have a multi hundred pound system sitting unopened in my cupboard doing nothing at all, which seems like a massive waste. I'm not sure what the situation might be on selling the system since if I recall correctly the Pi is maybe linked to me, or the remote, or both? Not sure if that would be able to be transferred? Ideally I would like to see someone get use out of this, rather than it just sit in a cupboard not being utilized, since there is nothing sadder than abandoned tech which is still relevant!

For some reason I cannot read this reply, it says "This message contains secure information", even though I am logged in...guessing maybe a private message, but for the life of me I can't see where PMs might be!

I was just wondering what system you are using instead of the SmartRemote?

I've got Remote Two from Unfolded Circle, running in combination with Home Assistant.

It's not without it's faults (for example Bluetooth compatability is only just being released into beta) but it's been well supported and it's stupidly easy to set up - I replaced everything on my Harmony Elite with about three hours or so of setup.

There's also been issues with IR strength for some people, but this has now been addressed with software - and additional hardware scheduled for Remote 3 which will be provided to R2 owners for extremely cheap.

Also, a big plus point is it is open source and fully local, and there are community written integrations (for example, the HA side integration, and someone just this week released an integration that can run in an external docker and basically imports all your Harmony devices and activities, and then allows use of the Harmony hub as a IR repeater).
