Video clip on smartremote? was created by Nillaz
I've been toying around with the idea of playing a short video clip on the remote screen during the interval when I power on my system but before everything is booted up and ready to go. Has anyone implemented something similar? Is this even possible to do today?

Thanks man. This wasn't originally how I envisioned doing it but converting my .mp4 to a .gif worked out brilliantly!

Just out of curiosity what are you displaying? is it sort of a loading or spinner or something more specific?

I wanted a timer counting down from when I pressed the power button on the remote to when the system was ready for use but the progress bar and radial progress widgets didn't scratch my itch.

I ultimately ended up deploying this trick for many things. When I switch activities there's a transition animation from one remote scene to the next. When I launch an app there's a logo animation for that source, and I'll also use those as scene transitions for apps that get native integration with the remote (i.e. PLEX, etc.). There are also custom animations when I turn on things like my automatic shutdown timers, power off sequence, etc.

All of the animations are timed exactly, and the time interval varies from room to room. The remote plays whatever animation it needs to and finishes loading whatever page comes next just as the source becomes available for use. I like the added flair, but I don't want to be waiting for an animation to finish if the source is already loaded and ready to go.

I am eventually going to rebuild these in After Effects instead of relying on video, but I don't have the hours to allocate to this right now. With a little luck I can dive into that in the next few weeks.

Assuming that these links work (I never know what's going to happen with this forum software) I just posted a few clips to youtube. Sorry for the crap quality I used my phone and hadn't had my coffee yet lol. I'm sure you'll get the idea though.
