Question for Harmony Migrators

As one that is hoping to move away from Harmony (Elite) and into SmartRemote, I have a question for folks that have been moving to SmartRemote.

Do we really need to add drivers for all of our components? For example, I originally started (pre Harmony driver) by adding separate drivers for my Sony TV, NVidia Shield, AppleTV etc.

I then installed and setup the recent Harmony driver. It brought in all my devices (the above list) and activities.

Begs the question - do I really need the other drivers?
As a side, there is no driver, presently, for my new Sony AVR (ES series). Harmony knows how to control it and supports all the commands.
If I didn’t have the Harmony driver, my SmartRemote would be of little use…

If you don't mind relying on your Harmony integration and it's working as expected I don't see why you'd have to configure anything else.

Otherwise, if there isn't a functional driver available you would have to rely on IR either from the remote itself or via an IP2IR to control the receiver.

I ended up restarting from scratch this morning. I only have my ecobee thermostat and Harmony driver.

At this point, the SmartRemote shows all Activities and Devices. Selecting an Activity turned on my TV, AVR and what I selected (i.e. FireTV)

But, there is ends. I need to send an Enter to the FireTV - and nothing on SmartRemote seems to do this. Worse, I can't change to another Activity. Even PowerOff doesn't do anything...

Back to trying away!

John make sure you turn on verbose logging in the driver. That will give me a better idea what it is doing when I remote in. 

You do not have to install any other drivers until you are ready to migrate off of Harmony to native myServer integration.

I feel you....when it comes to the Harmony integration the struggle is real. Currently I have everything Harmony related completely disabled on the remote. Something is completely goofed with my setup. Selecting an activity in one room actually starts controlling devices in another room entirely. Button presses on certain devices cause infinite loops of commands to be issued. It's been completely perplexing.

I'm almost ready to just take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. I have a new NVME drive coming on Monday and if I can't get my issues sorted out I'm going to swap out the drive currently installed in the server for one with a completely fresh install. I'll have to re-invent the wheel on a whole bunch of things but the current situation has forced me to learn quite a lot in a short period so things should go much faster next time around. Fingers crossed that it doesn't come to that, but I'll deal with it if it does.

On the flip side, from playing around with things outside of the Harmony integration and getting a deeper understanding of how everything works under the hood I'm still pretty positive on the whole concept here. It's not perfect and their are some significant things that need to be addressed before this whole thing is ready for primetime, but I can definitely see the potential.

I will say, with the latest updates from Davep (harmony driver - 6.7.101.38663) it's working better.
Still a few issues, but Davep is working on them - even on a Saturday!!!
