Received myServer6 on usb drive, network not coming up was created by RoyN
Hi, I just received my package with smart remote and a myserver6 usb thumb drive.
I tried the USB stick on an existing RPI4 that was setup to boot from USB already but for some reason it seems the network is not coming up… I am plugging it directly into a port on my router (Unifi UDM Pro)… I see the port comes up but doesnt obtain an IP... (tried a known network cable...same thing)
I connected it to my TV through HDMI and I get to the desktop with an Allonis logo on the wallpaper after a few reboots… (unfortunately I dont have an external mouse or keyboard to diagnose it further right now…)
I thought about installing on an nvme drive I have setup to go into the pi, but I've been unable to image it using Etcher...
I tried downloading the image from allonis.com/support/documentation/downlo...e/1-allonis-software (the first one) to try and flash it on a drive but Etcher wont open the .zip I download, and it wont decompress using regular unzip (says its corrupted?)
Thanks for any help!

There is not anything special to networking when it comes to the RPI. Very simple device and operating system.
What does your switch port say? Is there a device active on that port? You will need to troubleshoot and may need keyboard/mouse to do that.
I've worked any many Allonis imaged RPI's and never had it be a problem. Always the networking infrastructure... To my knowledge, DHCP is the default method of getting an address. So, do you have a DHCP server on that network? Do you have vlans? Does your network support IPv4 - important that it does!
You can open a terminal window in linux and type the following command to get dump of DHCP messages:
journalctl | grep "dhcp" | more
You're looking for something like "dhcp4 (eth0): state changed new lease, address=192.168.0.2"..

I'm pretty sure its something on the Pi and not myServer itself... At this point the pi may have a defect or the software/usb drive may have something funny going on... thats why I wanted to flash the image and rule that out...
I have a keyboard/mouse coming in tomorrow so I'll be able to find out a bit better whats going on...
The question was mostly around how to image a new drive I guess... in terms of the issue at hand I'll need the keyboard to diagnose better, but wanted to try other things until tomorrow lol... Its weird the switch shows GB negotiation on the port and some traffic outgoing but 0 incoming... very strange - I suspected a faulty cable initially but I've swapped that out...changed port too...

It is very likely you didn't wait long enough for the multiple automatic reboots the system takes to get up and running. Hopefully you didn't power cycle while it was doing that. It can take 15 minutes.
Super important: follow the documentation step by step and don't do it "your way". The procedure is very particular.

I would get an HDMI monitor / keyboard / mouse on it to see what's going on while it is booting.
If you got impatient, then TeamViewer registration might be hanging up the system that now has to be "clicked" to approve.
But you won't know until you see.

I waited... quite a long time (maybe 1h?)
The pi has a case that sends "shutdown" to the OS which is how I powered it down to move it to where I had a TV to plug it in... When I powered it up it went all the way to the desktop so it seems to be powering up....
Any word on how to re-image a drive? Apart from going into the OS (once my keyboard arrives) I think thats my best bet...

But I doubt you need to do that. Get a monitor on it.

Get used to searching the documentation. Search for "myServer" You will see a "master image" document.I waited... quite a long time (maybe 1h?)
