You shouldn't do that....
Do this

You don't need to "build a Linux machine". You just follow the above on a Raspberry Pi4 /5 with 4 or 8 gig and be done.

David, I'm trying to follow your advice and the tutorial but am stuck.   The flash went fine and I have bootable media for the PI that seems to be working OK.   I have a monitor and mouse/keyboard hooked up to the PI.   Problem is it won't hook up to the internet via lan cable or wireless.   My wireless hotspots don't show in the PI.   And the PI doesn't show up on my homes 192.168.X.X network.   Seems like the PI has somehow assigned itself an IP of 127.0.0.1 as far as I can tell.

I had a spare card and flashed it with a standard PI setup and it was easy to set up wireless and it worked fine so I know the hardware is good.

Not sure what to try next.   Advice appreciated..

Thx

No reason known why the Pi can't connect to your network via ethernet. Good reason it can't via Wifi because Wifi is disabled by default. At the very bottom of one of the installation documents it speaks to how to enable Wifi...but we don't recommend you use myServer via Wifi...ethernet is more reliable.
The Pi is using DHCP addressing by default so ensure you have your DHCP server on the network (typically your router).

Card - a SDMIcro? Recommended is a 400mhz 128Gig USB3.0 drive. No reason a SDMicro won't work, but it won't be as reliable.

Ensure you are waiting long enough for the multiple reboots it takes. this can take like 20 minutes. Maybe you didn't wait long enough. If you shortcutted this, start over again. You should see the TeamViewer icon on the bottom right of the screen (and the TV popup should be gone).

Thanks David. Not sure what I did wrong earlier. Anyway, I went downstairs and did a normal shutdown and restart and everything worked. Likely I didn't wait long enough initially perhaps but the PI was up and running for a LONG time this afternoon.
