The ip2ir device is supposed to be able to learn IR codes via their iLearn software.  I can connect to the device through iLearn, but it doesn't pickup any IR codes.  The IR receiver is built-in and accessible through the front of the device (according to their docs).

Is there a trick to using this?

I've found that the source remote needs to be pretty close to the IR pinhole, but not right up against it...maybe 3 - 6 inches away. It also needs to be directly in front of it.

Thanks.  I got it to work once... then it stopped.  It is super frustrating.

I know this is a level of extra complexity you really don't need - but years ago I had a similar problem when I needed to learn remote codes for a home automation project - in the end I used an arduino connected to a cheap IR receiver to record all the codes. It worked really well... But not a great solution unless you like tinkering with arduinos.

I picked up a cheap GlobalCaché IP2IR from eBay to experiment with and was trying to use iLearn to teach it a code from my Harmony remote. After much swearing I eventually realised that the Harmony device I was using was setup to only emit IR from the Harmony Hub blaster and not the remote. Are you sure there is anything coming out of the remote you are using? Have you looked at it through a digital camera while pressing a button or otherwise verified it works?

The remote works fine, it appears the ip2ir device is super sensitive to aiming of the remote.  I did get it to record once...  I have a note out to the manufacturer of the speakers asking for the IR codes.  They are tower speakers and for some odd reason are not in any IR database I have found.  If I could figure out how to get them out of my URC system (I had to learn them), I would be set.  Not a big deal, the speakers are pretty much set and forget.
