I used the AndroidTV driver to discover two Shield devices and a Sony TV. These devices did not show up in the Sources & Apps display. I eventually noticed that they had a type of "UnknownATV" on the AndroidTV driver display. I observed in one of the videos that a Shield had a type of ShieldTV. Once I typed in ShieldTV in the type field on the driver display for the Shield it showed up in Sources & Apps display. I then noticed that the type field has a pull-down on the Sources and Apps display which allowed me to see the list of types.
Any thoughts on why these devices are being detected at the driver level as "UnknownATV"?
If "UnknownATV" is not the expected result of the discovery, it would be helpful to flag this in some way.
The Sources & Apps has a pull-down for the type field. Is there a reason the AndroidTV driver does not have a pull-down for the type field?
It would be helpful for troubleshooting to know how the type field is used by myServer.
myServer uses device type to map that device to a device control class. So, lights go on / off / dim. TVs have channel control, power on / off, volume. So, the UI and commands are relevant to the device class. The Android Driver supports multiple different types of device classes. Android TVs, Android media players, even the SmartRemote are Android ADB devices. Knowing the type of device is needed for the system to assist in easier configuration.
