Remote periodically locking up was created by Nillaz
My wife has been complaining for a few days that the remote in the sunroom randomly locks up while she's using it and she will have to wait anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes before it becomes responsive again. I haven't been able to pinpoint the issue and she says she's not using it any differently than she always has. I never notice any issues at all when I'm using my other remote in the theater room.
While I was out today I had her write down the time each event happened and when I got home tonight I crossreferenced those timestamps with the server logs. What I'm seeing in the log around those timestamps looks like this:27/10/2024 17:27:55.27 · DEBUG · AndroidTV. - The device {192.168.1.85:55055} has changed
I'm also seeing:
27/10/2024 17:30:32.30 · DEBUG · AndroidTV.OnDeviceDisconnected - The device {192.168.1.85:55055} has disconnected
Followed shortly thereafter by:
27/10/2024 17:30:52.30 · DEBUG · AndroidTV.OnDeviceConnected - The device {192.168.1.85:55055} has connected
Does anyone possibly have some advice on how to troubleshoot this further, and maybe some insight as to what might be going on in the first place? I've already tried swapping the remote with the one from the theater and it's also locking up when set to control the sunroom so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue with the remote itself. It also seems to happen at random intervals. Yesterday it didn't happen once all day until just before bedtime. Today it happened at least 5 times throughout the day. I don't think I've really made any changes to the server recently that might account for this.
Thanks in advance!

Network issue in that area?
From the log, it's falling off the network.
Are you swapping remotes into the physical area? Or able to move the problem simply by choosing the same room (but remote stays in the "other" room)?

I physically swapped the remotes between the two rooms. I'm not aware of any network issues in the sunroom and have never had any up until now, but I'll look into it. If it comes down to it I can add an access point in the room. Thanks for the suggestion!

I still have not completely resolved my occasional lock up when controlling my Nvidia Shield (the recent fixes have not yet been fully implemented). So that begs the question: What device is she attempting to control when the lockup occurs?

However, the Shield is being tracked by myServer so I can monitor it's state. I may try to remove it from myServer entirely just so I can eliminate the Shield as a possible root cause. The lockup isn't happening with any other Shield in the house, but all of the other Shields are also purposely on a much older firmware version for stability reasons.
Before I go this route I'm going to take David's advice and further explore potential wifi issues. There is an access point on the floor above the sunroom and I want to make sure that the remote isn't trying to connect to it erroneously.

She is using the Nvidia Shield, but not controlling it directly. Technically speaking she's controlling an ip2ir, which is in turn controlling the Shield.I still have not completely resolved my occasional lock up when controlling my Nvidia Shield (the recent fixes have not yet been fully implemented). So that begs the question: What device is she attempting to control when the lockup occurs?

I agree with checking the wifi first, especially since it is easy to do. You can drop into Android on the SmartRemote, and check the wiri settings, or even load one of those free Wifi analyzer apps from the play store.
However, I still have concerns with the repeating character fix for the Shield that was released recently. There may still be some issues with it. I will be expressing my concerns on the appropriate thread on this. Something to keep in mind.
