Smart Remote Crashes Overnight was created by cjisble
I am having an intermittent problem that just started a few weeks ago. I will glance at the Smart Remote sitting on the charger, and notice the screen is completely black. When I pick it up, it is on the desktop. If I use the power button to reboot, everything starts up again as expected. I will go three or four days without a problem, and it will happen again.
I don't see anything in the myServer logs, so I think the problem is on the remote itself. How do I debug this?

So it's been 13 days and it just crashed again.
Is there anything I can check, on the remote itself or using ADB, to try to figure out what is happening?

If you are at the Android Desktop, that would imply the OS didn't crash. Possibly the smartremote.apk shut down? If so, then you don't need to reboot the OS (power button on the side). You just need to relaunch the apk (the "smartremote" app icon link). The apk launches much faster than a reboot, so less hassle to do so.
The AndroidDriver can be put into "monitor" mode to relaunch the apk when it sees it's not running if this becomes a problem. Note that when in monitor mode, even if you manually exit the smartremote.apk (click on dot dot dot hard button from the Home page) then it will auto relaunch again. To truly manually shut the apk down (like to manage Android settings - which is uncommon) and not have AndroidDriver constantly restart the apk, then shut off Monitor mode in myServer's AndroidDriver for that smartremote's device ID.
We haven't seen this situation in testing much so don't have any input into root cause. We will monitor.

This time it lasted 15 days. Yes, it is the apk that crashes, not the Smart Remote OS.
Before I restart it, is there anything at all, perhaps a logfile, that I should retrieve and post?
Or maybe there is some type of logging I need to turn on, so we can check next time?

Very old thread I know, but I've had this problem a couple of times recently. Picked the remote up off its charging stand to find it's at the Android desktop. Tap on the smart remote app icon and it starts up and seems to work OK.
I've also had another problem twice where the remote has locked up completely. We've been using it, then pick it up to use it again and the screen is still displaying the last scene but no hard buttons and no screen taps work at all. Short pushing the side power button turns the screen on and off but that's the only thing that responds. Long pushing to reboot the remote completely gets it working again.
My wife is talking about getting the six discrete remotes out of the cupboard...
I looked at turning on verbose logging on myServer but that generates a massive log with things happening regularly every second and many many messages from zigbee2mqtt and who knows how long we'd have to let it run before it happens again.
Any suggestions?
