Memory Leak?

FYI - on both my VM and Official PI Server the "Free Memory" on the dashboard drops day by day.  On the PI, it has 4GB, It reports .57GB used and .12GB free.  On the VM I have 3GB, and it reports .83GB used and .55GB free.  Upon reboot the VM jumps back to 1.97GB free.  The same behavior is on the PI.

That is something you will always see after a reboot or reset or restart. Temporary data will be purged by the restart. As the app or computer get going, that temporary data will be rebuilt. The "memory leak" thing only occurs when you note that as time progresses, the memory usage keeps increasing until eventually there is no more available memory to be had.

Last night the free memory dropped to .1GB free and the Anthem "volume_label" froze (meaning when you adjusted the volume, the value was not reflected on the remote).

Related??? Maybe.

What is weird is that the Used Memory + the Free Memory is a fraction of the Total Memory.

Memory management is a complex subject and varies greatly between different types of computers. I look at available memory as being like an empty space on my desk, just begging to have something placed there. Its not really a problem unless I consider it a problem.

Allonis may want look at your issue further (as they are more aware of how memory allocation works with Allonis). They may want more information, since the problem may be something different and not due to lack of memory.

I run a bunch of hosted systems and monitor them pretty closely. My background is in Event Management (not party planning ) and I built monitoring an event correlation systems for some huge companies. What I see here are some weird events... Are they related, who knows. I posted the original post as an F.Y.I. because it is simply that.

I may use the old "Indoor Rain Gutter" approach and setup a system reboot once a week or every few days just to have the system do a clean reload.

Ok....this is making a bit more sense. Debian is grabbing the memory and allocating it to the Buffer/Cache. When the PI reboots, the Myserver app shows .1gb free.... I can get that number to grow by kicking off stuff on Myserver. I'm guessing that the app needs more memory, the OS releases it from the Buffer/Cache and then it becomes allocated to the application (thus the free memory increasing).

I think my other weird events are probably not memory related and just "stuff". My recommendation would be to remove the free memory from the dashboard...it is a pretty meaningless number.
