Venstar manufactures a line of thermostats that support Wifi and bi-directional control via an API on the LOCAL network.  ie: no cloud connectivity required.  This makes it nice to use to control HVAC in secure or remote residences.

Installation

Install the Wifi Venstar thermostat model following that thermostats wiring instructions from Venstar.

Connect the thermostat to your WiFi network.   You should either set a static IP on the thermostat, or reserve an unused IP on your network's DHCP server (typically on the router).  The IP address should never change.

During the thermostat's setup, look for the setting for API.  Choose to turn that ON.

Ping the thermostat's IP address from a network connected computer to ensure the thermostat is on the selected IP address.

Download and install Venstar driver from myServer's Software Updater.

Once installed, Configure the driver.  Click on Discovery button.  myServer will now go through the IP network to "find" the thermostat.  This can take several minutes.

If found, the thermostat's IP address and MAC address will be shown.  If you have more than one Venstar thermostat, wait until all are found.  Otherwise, post finding them, click the Discovery button again to shut off that service.

Add the thermostat to the room it is in.  This will set the variables used in thermostat drop down choice lists.

Restart myServer.

On next restart, the Venstar driver will contact the thermostat(s) and populate all "climate_" variables that the out of the box myServer user interfaces should display.  You can also issue test commands from within the Driver's Command Builder to see all available functions.

Device type should be "Thermostat".
