Emby is a robust media management and server application.  myServer 6 integrates with it so that the media presentation and control is managed within a myServer 6 customizable user interface.  Allonis's myServer 6 base software includes Emby server for ease of setup.  Emby replaces Allonis's "myMovies", myMusic, myPhotos applications of V5.

The Emby server can then distribute content to any DLNA media player, like Allonis's "myMediaPlayer"s and "myAudioPlayer"s.  Ripped music, Movies, TV shows, pictures are all supported.  myServer 6 can then control the media player transport controls via DLNA commands. (Play / Pause / FFwd / Rewind / Volume etc).

Installing Emby on a Raspberry Pi

Download the correct version of Emby.  Use the Ubuntu aarch64 production version.

In Raspberry OS desktop, open a command window and type:

cd Downloads

(where you downloaded the Emby install file).

Then run (you may need to modify the version depending on what you downloaded):

32 bit:

  • dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.7.5.0_armhf.deb

64 bit:

dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.8.0.3_arm64.deb

Once Emby is installed, navigate to it's configuration URL: http://localhost:8096/

Go through the Emby configuration wizard.

Add the user "Allonis" and set the password as "allonis". Certainly you can change this once you get the hang of how all is setup.

Configure Emby to add a Library.  See Emby documentation for details

Configuring Emby

Once the myServer 6 controller is running, the Emby server is available at this URL (replace the IP address with your myServer 6 address).

http://192.168.1.20:8096

You will have to select "Allonis" as the User ID.  The default password is "allonis"

If by chance you forgot the password, ensure you have a screen and keyboard / mouse connected to the myServer 6 controller (where Emby software is running).  Then select "Reset Password" on the Login screen.  Reset for the user "media".  You will then see you have to navigate to a file path where the password reset pin code is displayed.  Go to the URL listed in the reset document and press the Shift key and Enter (to avoid web browser page cache issues).  Enter the PIN listed in the reset document.  This will clear all "media" user passwords which will then allow you to log in to the "media" account where you can reset the password.  You must complete this process within a couple of minutes so get the hardware setup before you begin.

Content Management

To add media, connect to the myServer 6 controller via a networked laptop / desktop computer.  Navigate to the media folder.  Add content to the appropriate folder.  You can add new folders as well.  For our example, we have added media\photos\golf and copied several golf related photos to this new directory.  Emby will see the new folders and automatically add the content to it's media database.

Once the data is in the Emby database, myServer 6 can then display it.
