Rain8 killin me again

Thu Jun 26, 2014 8:03 pm

Well, came home from a long day and Zone 11 has my yard a muddy mess. 15 hours and still was watering that zone, even though running zones showed nothing. Yet, when I hit "stop" on the console, it KNEW to shut off zone 11 and the master valve. Very frustrating.

Art,

That doesn't sound good. I noticed there were two off commands sent at the same time stamp. That might be a good real time test to see if you do send two off's at the same time, that they do turn them both off.

If I'm not mistaken the Rain8 allows you to configure maximum run times with their software that gets written directly to the hardware. I have mine set to 30 minutes.

So far, so good with the driver change. I'll keep an eye on it and report anything strange.

Well that is good. When I saw a new message posted here I assumed the worst.

The old Rain8s played their last game holding the master valve open and reporting on, then in the next poll off, then on again.
Gave up and bought 3 new rain8NET versions and so far, so good. The guys at WGL designs really weren't any help, and rather than fight this anymore, dropped $300 for new units.

So I have all new Rain 8 nets and put the units on a new serial-usb dongle. I still see some weird issues where the units don't respond after a certain amount of time, but it seems it may just be a reporting issue from the controller because the programs seem to run fine so far when they run.

Strangely, this am at 2:30 the summer program should have run but didn't. The irrigation app log shows this:
7/20/2015 2:06:30 AM GetForecast 08018

What am I missing? It didn't run as expected. The precipitation "don't run" was set at 60% and was forecasted for 20%, but I figured any reason it wouldn't run would also be logged. Did the fact the rain8 didn't respond cause the whole thing to just give up?

Re: Rain8

Fri Aug 28, 2015 9:09 am

So after a few years of frustration, I bought 3 new modules (Rain8 net) in May and new usb-serial dongle.

There are still some issues, and I can't blame the controllers at this point since they are all new. I'd like to get to the bottom of this eventually. This is from this morning; although the controller was indeed communicating and continued to do so. It just didn't feel like starting today. A subsequent manual start worked fine. The program was supposed to start at 12:00:00 am. Looks like the master valve did turn on, but ML missed it?

Re: Rain8 killin me again

Art - Rain 8 killed me for years and I finally installed hard relays off of my HAI system. The only failure I get now is if something happens to my network or MLS box. I managed to water the veg garden for about 9 hours in the spring due to an MLS hang. I fixed that now and added a timer in HAI. If any valve opens more than 1.5 hours, HAI kills it.
Thanks
