Yup. I even matched up the IP / mac of the client on my DHCP server to verify everything.

Must be a difference in the models. Dave, do you have the info for my particular model?

Deven all I have is the protocol document and it just gives the basic commands. From the response you get back it might be a security issue. Are there any settings in those clients that need tweaking?

I think you may have to change the setting in "external devices" to "allow" external access, current programs, and recordings.
these are found in settings under "whole home"

Try that

BB-

The options you mentioned are on the Genie DVR box (and all are set to ALLOW), but these options don't show up on the clients.

Side not if this sparks any other ideas--- although I'm sure I put in the correct MAC of the mini, I get the same error message if I just put in a random MAC into the URL line. So, it's acting like the dvr can't access or locate that MAC.

Can you see the IP address of the client? Is it on the same subnet as the genie?

Yes. I can ping the LAN IP of the client(s).

Question for BB--- do you have your genie dvr connected via wireless or DECA? Mine is using DECA because I already had that setup with my old system.

I found the SHEF codes online elsewhere and tried some other retrieval commands rather than sending commands, and I get the same message... bad request. I looked up the http 400 error and it simply states that the webserver can't process the command. I don't think it has to do with the clients. But I dunno.

The clients should have two IP addresses.
the first one is provided by the genie for transferring video signals
the second one is DHCP from your router to do everything else.
Is that second IP address established and is it set to 192.168.0.xxx?

BB

I am using the old deca system for the genie dvr as well.

Yes, I see the 192.168.0.x address. I can verify it's connected.

Is it possible I just have a bad genie DVR box that isn't processing the shef commands?

I wonder if the problem is some of the other DirecTV devices in your setup.

What other DirecTV devices do you have running and which ones have a DECA?

I found this in a DirecTV white paper:
"If you accidentally use a DECA on an H24, H25, HR24, or HR34 receiver it simply won’t work. As a rule of thumb, if it’s got a flat, touchscreen front, it doesn’t need a DECA in back."

I would recommend reading the entire white paper to see if it helps you identify the problem - perhaps you have a kink in the chain:

Dave,
Are you moving forward with this?
getting the genie clients to update/control in this would be great.

What does the Status command do?

Sun Feb 09, 2014 10:35 am

I found the following DirecTV "Status" command somewhere in a macro. The DirecTV drop down box in Command Builder does not offer a choice for any "Status" command:

AV|{{av_activedvr_{{clientname}}}}~Status!

Is this a good or bad command? When it runs, ML does not show an error. If a good command, what does it do and how is it used?

Status is not a valid command. The GetTuned command is probably what should be there.
