USB/Serial for NetCallerID hardware

Tue Jun 05, 2007 11:40 pm

Looks like this is serial.
I assume a USB to serial converter cable will work?
Any recommendations on brands/sources for one of these?

NetCaller does not require anything fancy. Doubt that it even uses flow control or handshaking.. Very simple.

As long as data can get back and forth, it should work fine.

With that said, buy a good quality USB to serial convertor like an Edgeport or Byterunner. Saves mucho headaches and diagnosis time due to a less than adaquete serial adapter. Buy 4 - 8 ports as inevitably you will need it as your system grows. Keeps things cleaner.

I am surprised the netcallerID comes with a female serial end. thats a bummer. my serial ports are all female. I have no idea if the digi edgeport i bought has male or female (its not here yet). looks like i have to go out and get a converter. was hoping to get this up and running tonight.

The netcallerID should plug directly into the edgeport.
If by chance the sex is wrong (unlikely), then you can get a sex change adapter at most decent PC supply stores.

Things have really changed over the years...you used to have to go to Sweeden for a sex change! :P
